There are a lot of messages that contain “reset”, no surprise. I’ll search for “reset” in my Gmail account: Okay, enough sniping, right? Let’s get down to it. Then again, it’s Google and while the team’s great at building big scale tools, their user interfaces quite often leave something to be desired. You can turn it off, but it’s not obvious how to do that because, by my way of thinking, it’s been added to the wrong menu. Do a search in Google’s Gmail system and while the summary listing of messages don’t highlight the match, when you’re reading a specific message, the occurrence or occurrences of the matching word, phrase or pattern are displayed with a subtle yellow background highlight. No, I am not using POP or any other 3rd party tool to interface, this is using latest version of Chrome and going to often take screen captures - as I did for this article - and know exactly what you’re talking about. No, I don't have any of the weird "primary" and "social" tabs enabled No, it does not show up in any other left hand filter other than "All mail" No, there are no labels applied to it, unless you count "inbox" as a label (but it won't show if I search label:inbox) No, other messages don't seem to be encountering the issue, just one in particular No, I have no filters that should be filtering this email out I can also see it if I just navigate down to "All Mail" What I'm trying to say is, it CLEARLY is in the inbox, and not somewhere else, but for whatever reason the only way I can find the message is to search specifically with that combo of filter, or to directly search the string of the subject. If I search for in:spam is:unread it no longer shows, or in: basically. If I search for both in:inbox is:unread then it does show. If I search for in:inbox, it also won't show.
